As Jon Tron put it, "You gave me the fuckin' final destination of all the characters I might love, you lunatic."

This film needed Stephen King...

I thought they named the children "Boy" and "Girl" so that if they had real names, other people who may also be named that might be called out for? Wow, that doesn't make a lot of sense written down.

no links to the clips used?

That ending punchline benefitted from never being explained.

It's poetic in a way. Watching videos of the bird box challenge makes you want to kill yourself, just like the movie

The criminally insane were sociopaths/psychopaths, so they lacked empathy. They see the thing, the thing goes into their heads, and...nothing going. One of us, one of us. In other words, they were completely unaffected by the whole ordeal - they were themselves but free, not only from their prison, but also from the rules of society. Same with British guy...he acted normal, because that's what they're used to doing: social mimicry (think Dexter Morgan). It's the only aspect of the movie that made any sense to me, totally not a sociopath...

Did they had the Audacity of naming genders to the kids in 2018??? Where is all the LGBTQABCDEF ranting about that??

Sarah Paulson is not awesome. Terrible over actor imo.

A lot of repetitive criticism/comprehensive complaining about the social media presence and not a lot being discussed about the actual film, this review was weirdly tilted. I don't disagree that Birdbox isn't a masterpiece but it's not nearly as bad as you both make out. It's also pretty ironic that Jay recommends Apostle when it shares many of the same flaws. Apostle has almost zero exposition regarding it's supernatural elements, which were also largely unnecessary given the religious themes in an otherwise well made film (also ignoring the constant use of intense injury without real concequence to build tension). Birdbox did a poor job of introducing the Lovecraftian monsters, but being incomprehensible is part of the shtick and they were at least centrally relevant to the plot.

When Sandra bullock bumps into her doctor at the school for the deaf 😂😂😂 What are the chances

The message seemed all over the place, but it has one:
In the first scene there's this dialogue about running from the truth; you'd think it'd be "you can't run from the truth." WRONG. At the end there's that bit about lying to the kids because otherwise life isn't worth living. The moral is straight up: The truth sucks, don't look at it. Find yourself a good lie.
It's basically a reverse 'Plato's cave.'

That, and bald MAGA dude is always right. Show people no mercy, or else you'll get screwed over. (Which actually feeds into the truths sucks message.)

Actually, I think the best (most meta) thing about this movie's existential horror is all the dumb, wino soccer moms who find it uplifting.

Cmon people, why you gotta hate? It's a good movie, and only needed a couple really tiny changes, which could have possibly catapulted it into a better movie. Those being:

A: A different adapted screenplay from an almost decent writer.
B: All different actors, especially the lead. That distracting and weird plastic-surgery-face Sandra Bullocks was, well, distracting.
C: A different director.
D: Completely different editing, pacing, sound, score, and cinematography.
E: Different catering company on-set (the rumor is that the burritos made everyone gassy, which decreased efficiency).
F: Transgender representation! The lead, and all supporting actors should have been trannies. I mean, it just works! Everyone just adores them people, right? We have to! (or else)

See how little it would have taken? Just the slightest of barely noticeable tweaks, and you'd have a slightly more enjoyable film.

When I see Sandra Bulldog's mug, I can only think about how many foreskins from mutilated Korean babies are inside her face right now.
