Why You Should Disable iCloud Photo iCloud Backup Failed - You Do Not Have 3 months ago   05:56

One of the new features in iOS called iCloud Photo Library is definitely not helping. This feature, while in theory, allows you to backup all of your photos and videos on any of your iOS or MacOS devices to the cloud, takes up precious iCloud storage and adds up really quickly. Most people I know have run out of storage just from iCloud backups (another issue I have with iOS, but I digress) so adding this is almost a sure-fire way to guarantee you run out of iCloud storage.

There is a better way though. I touched on this in a video a long time ago about backing up your photos and videos but think we need to revisit the concept. You should turn off iCloud Photo Library and instead use another free service like, say, Google Photos which automatically backs up all of your photos and videos in an unlimited quantity for free.

So here's how we do that.

Are you serious with this video? iCloud is way more secure then Google cloud.

I turned on photo library the other day and it said more than 2000 photos(all of them) were going to be deleted, im not sure if they're in the iCloud right now.

Brilliant. Thank you!

Thanks for the info, I am in the process of moving over to google photos!
Funny thing is people are commenting about better privacy with Icloud, if you are on the internet in any capacity, you do not have privacy.

How can I upload to Instagram stories if all my photos and vids are on google photos? Is there a way?
I like just knowing HOW to do things like this & alternatives & options, awesome video

You say it's not for everyone and I would say it's not for most. I'm wrestling with the best way to do this and unfortunately Google Photos may upload all your photos but it won't sync after that. In other words, if you delete a photo on your computer (where I store my originals and then back them up on a disc drive...I would never solely trust a cloud service to keep my original photos) it does not delete in Google Photos. Although I use Google Photos as a secondary back up at this point because it won't sync and I'm still trying to figure out a way to do it. I would like to turn off iCloud Photo Library but because it syncs seamlessly at this point I have no choice but to stick with it.

I have the $3 family sharing plan with 5 people and about 8 devices and we're using about 25% of our capacity so there's plenty of room for photo storage and backups
Great information! Thanks
dunno yolo
I dont trust any cloud. But the one that rains...lol

The 2nd day I bought the ipad pro Apple notified me my icloud account has less than 25% space left. I took a look and found out they backup everything, including web app caches like Google docs. It also suggested I could saved a few hundred megabytes of photos storage on my 256GB ipad by uploading them to icloud (5GB). Besides, icloud photo needs work, such as "hidden" vs "archive". There are other problems such as hiding information especially exif, information like aperature, shutter speed, iso, dimensions are completely censored.

I use both. Why not? And it’s double the backup. I don’t trust any one service to be infallible

Give google more of your info? Yea.

If I delete my photos from iCloud to keep it below the free 5GB limit, it deletes the same photos from my iphone and ipad as well. The reverse also happens, delete a photo from your iphone or ipad and it is deleted from the cloud as well. So the iCloud is not a means of storage separate from your iphone or ipad, basically you are paying Apple for the privilege of storing photos on your own devices. The only way to back up your photos is to store them on your home PC or USB stick, then you can free up space on your phone and ipad for free.

iCloud is some bull shit and for people that are worried about privacy the simple solution is do not keep your porn on your phone 👍

Is there a freeware alternative to Google? If not, what is least expensive and most secure?

If I turn off my iCloud Photo Library and didn’t download google photos or any applications, will my photos be deleted after a certain amount of days forever in my phone?
